About the Author
S. M. Joshi is a retired NASA researcher and a part-time educator in control theory and applications. He has a PhD in Electrical Engineering and is a Life Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers), and a
Fellow of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics) and ASME (American society of Mechanical Engineering).
He is the author/coauthor of well over 200 serious publications (including 3 books) in control theory and a variety of aerospace applications. He also taught several controls courses, advised graduate dissertations, and
was the originator and contributor of the “Out of Control”
cartoons that appeared in the IEEE Control Systems Magazine (1985- 1994). He is a recipient
of several technical awards from IEEE, ASME, AACC (American Automatic Control Council), as well as the Distinguished Service Medal, the highest honor conferred by NASA.
